The Hills Run Red with Boobs and Blood

The Hills Run Red is about a movie, by the same name, that was banned in 1982 and lost into obscurity for being too sick and twisted for mainstream theaters. This mythical slasher movie becomes the obsession of a young film maker named Tyler (Tad Hilgenbrinck). The first forty minutes of the movie is lost in this plot buildup wherein Tyler and his quest to document the history of his obsession for the lost film forces him to unconsciously abandon his best friend forever, Lalo (Alex Wyndham) with Tyler’s neglected girlfriend Serina (Janet Montgomery). Was the love triangle necessary? No. Was it interesting? No. Did we get to see a bunch of boobs during this first part of the movie? Yes.

Enter stage left, Alexa (Sophie Monk). So far we have two elements of a slasher/porn movie, young adults and topless strippers. Alexa just so happens to be the daughter of the mysterious director of The Hills Run Red (the fictional one) played by William Sadler. After Tyler helps her get off the H-Sauce and Lalo and Serina are fooling around with each other, they all decide to go to the site of the filming of the lost film. Another element of a slasher movie, going to the middle of nowhere. Finally, almost an hour into the movie, people begin to die. At this point, I had lost interest, but started to give the movie a shot again. But too little, too late.

It just seems to me that whoever made this movie was trying to take all the elements of a slasher/porn movie and then mold it into something original and unique while forgetting that what people really want to watch is what was banned in the fictional movie in this film. There might some plot twists that you don’t necessarily see coming, but frankly, when they do, you don’t care. In the end, the movie is not terrible for the genre; but it left me wanting to watch the fictional film with the same name instead of this movie instead.

The Hills Run Red get two and a half bloody steaks for Sophie Monk’s boobs and for the decent amount of gore in the movie. If you like boobs and blood, then why not, watch it. Otherwise, you won’t miss out on anything.
