Trick ‘r Treat, Gave Me Something Good to See

Trick ‘r Treat was an eye-opener for me. I have recently watched several movies that went straight to DVD in the United States despite them being good, but I understood that either their production was a bit shoddy or it was a foreign import. But then, I watched Trick ‘r Treat and the entire time I kept thinking to myself, “How the hell is this not a major release?” There should be signs all over the place, commercials on TV, spots on the radio, all marketing the shit out of this movie and releasing it all over the country on the big-screens right before the best holiday in all the land, Halloween.
Trick ‘r Treat is what would happen if you crossbred Monster Squad with Tales from the Crypt and let it ferment in a prison toilet for a few weeks to give it that rated R kick. I mean, it’s an American rated R, which means that any kid over the age of 13 that is not home-schooled and raised under strict bible-thumping supervision can watch this. Hell, they SHOULD watch this and grow up a little, prep them up for their first beer and hooker by the end of the year.
The film follows four interwoven stories on Halloween night through a small suburban town. The movie plays deeply upon the creepy, scary side of trick or treating and its historical meaning and myths. It begins with a young couple arriving home from the festivities, ready to call it a night. All would be fine and well, if it weren’t for the girl kicking over the Jack-o-Lantern and expressing how much she hates the holiday. As her husband waits inside watching a porno, she begins to pick up and put away all the Halloween decorations on their porch and front yard. I don’t think I need to tell you that she never made it back inside.
The movie never grows dull or stale. It is cut from the same stock of horror/comedy’s that were produced during the late 80′s, but with better production and special FX. Once again, I don’t understand why this movie was not a major release. Halloween is only a month away and if you want to get in the mood for the most awesome holiday of the year, get your hands on Trick ‘r Treat, because after you watch it, you won’t take the chance NOT getting into the holiday spirit.
Trick ‘r Treat gets 5 bloody steaks. This movie was fun, well done, had a great storyline and made me feel like a kid again.
