First 24 Hours with PixelJunk Shooter on the PSN

GREAT GAME!!!!

This is a game I have been waiting forever. It is a simple overhead 2-d shooter and explorer, think old school Grand Theft Auto before Playstation. It’s is a PSN exclusive. PixelJunk has made a jewel of a game, and its only $9.99

The Good

The name of the game, it’s called Shooter. Its super simple to pick up and play. You don’t need any directions and you already know how to maneuver around the world as if you have played this game before. Check it, in this game you are a spaceship rescuing interplanetary colonists, scientists and explores on a new planet. You manipulate the environment, fire, ice, dirt, explosive gas, water, and lava. You do this by special upgrades in the game, whether it be a sponge that absorbs water from one spot of the level to use in a lava filled area in that same level, or putting on a water suit to freeze ice filled areas then harpooning out ice chunks to advance in the level.

This game has elements from all the old school 2-d games from the 198o’s like Dig Dug, Galaga, and many others all rolled into one game. The main focus was the game play not the graphics.

Graphically it’s amazing in its simplicity. It is cartooned out, which makes sense when playing Shooter’s story mode plus it’s a great change of pace. I am glad that the developers utilized the PS3′s power in a different direction.

Apparently this game plays up to 4 people, but I haven busted out the multiplayer yet. There is trophies and a global online ranking as well.

The Bad

Way to short! There is so much variety in strategies and enemies one would imagine that this game could have hundreds of levels, sadly it does not. You can beat the game in 1 sitting. The levels can also be bigger. Hopefully Shooter gets some down-loadable content in the near future.

In the end this game gets 4 meats, $9.99 never tasted so good.
