Late Night Drunken PSN Purchase was a Treat to Wake Up to

We have all been there, last call, way too much to drink but your not the least bit tired, a “friend” you haven’t seen in a minute comes into town, one things leads to another and BAM you on the couch with your main motherfucker, cracking late night beers, downloading games from the past, washed in HD goodness and tweeked just right. At least that was the case last Friday.

Wipeout HD was one of the 1st downloadable games on the PSN, as well as one of the 1st re-done games to get an HD wash. Other games, mostly Capcom, have done the same. Wipeout was a Sony exclusive and it has stayed that way. Some say it is an F-Zero clone, those people are idiots. The soundtrack itself is the stuff of legend, it made even the most hardcore metal listening kid bounce to electronic beats cultivated in a club where people dance stupidly and dress even more moronic; the soundtrack fits perfectly to this racer with a twist.

After only 2 races, I remembered how addicting this game was. The campaign mode allows time trails, different racer styles, which include 1 shots and tournaments. The best is the Zone levels, though. Just you, the track, some boost pads and that’s it; you keep going faster and faster until your ship blows up. I have only made ot to zone 22 on my PS3, and its intense. Unlike the other stages in this one, after passing an fixed # of zones, the entire level changes color schemes. And talking about the levels, the game actually runs animations that sync with the soundtrack, the road will be pulsating with the beat, caves will flash with bass thumps and the walls will glow and pulse to every ambient noise on the track. After passing 1 zone your speed keeps on increasing, and increasing, and increasing until you have banged into the wall long enough and you explode.

Wipeout can be found on the PSN currently discounted for the summer. In fact there is a new WipeOut upgrade (its called the Fury Pack and its $9.99) that will give you more race modes, a split screen for local 2 player matches, and even a new unlockable vehicle/team. It came out TODAY!!!! I haven’t downloaded it yet cause I have not come home wasted, but its Thursday night.
