New Old School Super Mario Bros Review
Once again Mario has shown up this holiday season with Luigi and 2 Toads in the New Super Mario Bros for the Wii. Instead of the Wii putting out a sequel to the Mario’s Galaxy they opted to throw it way back to the days of 2-d Mario with updated graphics and some new power ups. Results, AMAZING. Pick this game up, if you can find it!
Yeah its 2-d. Think Super Mario Bros 3, which is the definitive Super Mario game according to this pixel junky. There is a world map that you have to navigate around and you click to start the level. Yoshi and his variant colors show up to the game. Warps, Koppa Troopa’s that are green, red and undead, Ba-Bombs, Chirp Chips, and all of Bowser’s kids show up for this classic reboot.
Controls are perfect. All you do is flip your Wii controller horizontal, instant D-pad. No extra buttons. I am not going to get into how to play this game, cause if you don’t know how you are just plain stupid.
The only thing different is the power ups, like a helicopter hat, a penguin suit (I have yet to use) and a mini mushroom, which rules. Apparently there is a multi-player mode, but I haven’t cracked that open just yet. I do like the fact that if you are playing with someone who is not as good as and cant pass a particular section all you have to do is pick them up and carry them to end of the level. Genius.
This holiday season bring home this timeless classic. It is rare when a toddler, thrasher, tranny, and granny can all get together to play one game and they all will like it.
